AUSTRALIANS AND SCOTLAND DRAW

LAST MATCH OF TOUR AT EDINBURGH (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Sent 19. The Australians* 1953 tour ended today with only one loss—the vital fifth test, which lost them the Ashes. Rain washed out play after tea in the last match at Edinburgh today, and robbed the Australians of a possible victory. In lighthearted mood, the Australian! scored runs quickly, and also lost wickets. Davidson’s big hitting was the most successful—his best hit was an off-drive for six, which just failed to go out of the ground. Rain delayed the resumption after lunch by 30 minutes, and caused the match to end 85 minutes before time. Scotland lost the last seven wickets of their first innings for nine runs yesterday. Rain limited play to 246 minutes. Hassett, in a new role as a bowler, took three wickets for two runs. Lindwall took four for 31. At stumps Australia had scored 143 for three—Archer hit up 63 in 50 minutes.
