NELSON COLLEGE OLD GIRLS’ REUNION

A very pleasant reunion of old girls of Nelson College was held on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs J. Pear on, Shirley, where the president (Mrs A. F. Johnson) presided. The guest of honour was Miss Dorothy Paterson, a former pupil of the college, and an artist who has achieved much success in the Dominion and overseas. Miss Paterson showed about 50 of her paintings, all water colours. They included scenes in Venice, France and England, as well as some pictures painted in Akaroa and in the applegrowing district of Tasman, Nelson. Miss Faterson gave interesting descriptions Of the towns and villages where she had worked during her travels overseas and of the people she met. Guests were enthusiastic about the charm of her pictures of flowers. During the evening, regret was expressed at the recent death in Auckland of Miss Jean Stewart, formerly principal of the college, and Miss Garland, at’one time a member of the teaching staff, spoke warmly of Miss Stewards excellent work and of the graciousness that endeared her to her pupils and friends.
