CULTURAL SOCIETY

A musical programme of a high standard was presented at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch Cultural Society at which the president (Mr P. A. Le Brun) presided over a good attendance. Miss Rosamunde Connal played a pianoforte solo (Beethoven's Sonata, Opus 2, No. 3) and Mrs Helen Bennington with Mrs J. C. Cullman as accompanist sang a song cycle. “Joan of Arc,” by Armstrong Gibbs. The speaker was Mrs B. A. Abbott, who gave a graphic description of life in the hills of India, where she spent many years before she came to Canterbury. Three new members were elected and the speaker and artists were thanked by Mrs Cyril Collins.
