EASING PEAK POWER LOADS
SPECIAL GENERATORS IN SWITZERLAND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 17. The Waitemata Electric Power Board’s chief engineer (Mr C. M. Gray) inspected the gas turbine generating station near Baden, Switzerland, used for overcoming peak load problems, on his recent overseas investigations. He said today that the plant was the largest in the world, and could be built for £45 a kilowatt. It consisted of two machines, one of 15,000 kilowats and the other of 25,000 kiloA great feature was the quickstarting capacity of the plant, said Mr Gray. Both machines could generate at full load/Within 15 minutes of starting from cold. Because of the efficiency of this, type of plant, it would well repay detailed study by the State Hydro-electric Department as a possible source of peak load supply.
