VISIT OF BRITISH MINISTER
MID CANTERBURY PROGRAMME SUNDAY TO BE SPENT AT SPRINGFIELD ESTATE The itinerary for the visit to Ashburton county by the British Minister of Supply (Mr Duncan Sandys) was released yesterday by the clerlj of the Ashburton County Council (Mr C. Campbell). Mr Sandys will arrive next Saturday and leave on the* following Monday. " Mr Sandys will arrive at Wigram aerodrome about 5 p.m. Saturday and travel by car to the Springfield estate, near Methven, which was originally settled by his grandfather, Mr Duncan Cameron. There he will be the guestf of the present owner of the estate, Mr A. Taylor, and Mrs Taylor.
The Sunday Mr Sandys will have to himself at Springfield. On, the following day an official party consisting of county council members and members of other local bodies will travel from Ashburton to Springfield. They will meet Mr Sandys, who will go into Methven to inspect the grave of Mr Cameron. Lunch will be served at a hotel in Methven, and at 1 p.m. Mr Sandys will meet persons who knew Mr Cameron, in the Presbyterian Sunday School hall. At 2.45 p.m., Mr Sandys and the official party will arrive in Ashburton, and after afternoon tea an informal gathering will be at the'county council offices, where Mr Sandys will be welcomed by the Mayor of Ashburton (Mr E. C. Bathurst) and borough councillors. Mr Sandys will leave for Christchurch at 4 p.m.
