BOROUGH JUBILEE AT ASHBURTON

MUSEUM TO ASSIST IN CELEBRATIONS

The Canterbury Museum will take part in the seventy-fifth jubilee celebrations of Ashburton borough next month. Material will be provided for shop window displays, and there will be lectures by museum officials for adults and children.

The jubile celebrations provided the museum with a good opportunity of demonstrating that, although the building was in Christchurch, its services belonged to Canterbury as a whole, said the Director (Dr. Roger Duff), reporting to a meeting of the Museum Trust Board yesterday afternoon.

With the co-operation of Miss Rose Reynolds, the museum would provide period costume displays in two shop windows, and. would lend historical material to two other shops, said Dr. Duff. In addition, the education officer (Mr H. W. Beaumont) and the Director would give a lecture propgramme on the museum’s educational and scientific field work.

The lecture for adults would be on the evening of September 11, and there would be lectures for children on the morning and afternoon of September 16, Dr. Duff said. The theme of the lectures, which would be illustrated by colour slides and the notorms colour film, would be the museum’s field work at the Pyramid valley moa swamp, the Wairau bar moa hunter camp, and in the Murchison ranges west of Te Anau.
