FOUR LECTURES ON MUSIC

LONDON VISITOR TO CHRISTCHURCH

Mr Arthur Jacobs, acting-editor - of the “Musical Times,” London, will give four lectures in the music department of Canterbury University College from September 7 to September 10. They will be divided to permit lunch-hour attendances. They will begin at 1.10 p.m. and end at 2.50 p.m., with an interval about 2 p.m. “Music in Britain” will be the topic on the first three days, and on the last Mr Jacobs will speak on musical criticisms. On September 22, the music department has arranged a lunch-hour piano recital by Mr Peter Cooper, formerly of Christchurch, who will be appearing with the National Orchestra in • Christchurch. There will be rto lunch-hour recital at the college tomorrow because of preparations in the college hall for the production of “Julius Caesar.” Original incidental music, composed by Professor Vernon Griffiths and Mr John Ritchie, senior lecturer in music, has been recorded by the Woolston Brass Band for playing during the presentation. Next week, the lunch-hour recital will be given in room 15 by the college madrigal group under Mr Peter Zwartz.
