N.Z. CHEESE FOR AMERICA
80 PER CENT. OF CHEDDAR NEEDS (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, July 20. New Zealand will be able to export about 2,200,0001 b of Cheddar cheese to the United States this year, according to a spokesman for. the Agriculture Department. This would be about 80 per cent, of the Cheddar cheese imports entering the United States. The department’s announcement last Friday that New Zealand would be able to send 1,180,0001 b of Cheddar to the United States during the year ended July 1, 1954, applied only to cheese which could be imported through new American importers. This was because regulations which came intd effect on July 1 allowed cheese importers in the United States to handle only 30 per cent, of the amount of cheese they imported last year.
