(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, July 12. ' Canada won the Empire rifle shooting match at Bisley today with a total of 1826 points. New Zealand, with 1793 points, was second. Australia (1790) third, Britain (1722) fourth, and British West Indies (1718) fifth. It is the first time any country other than Britain or Australia has won the Empire competition since its inception in 1907. Members of competng teams fired 10 shots each at 300 , 600, 900, and 1000 yards. For the first time the 800 yards range was omitted to confine the match to one day’s firing instead of the normal two days. New Zealand's individual performances wei e:— M. Cammock (Waipukurau) 229, J. Oats (New Plymouth) 224, N. Palmer (Nelson) 225, J. Lobb (Invercargill) 223, M. Gordon (Hastings) 229, R. , Nicholl (Wellington) 230, J. Wooster (Christchurch) 213, C. Thom (Christchurch) 220. Lieutenant-Colonel S. Johnson, of Canada, scored 49 out of a possible 50 at 300 yards and 500 yards, and the possible at 600 yards. M. Cammock (New Zealand), R. Clark (Australia), and T. Horner (Britain) all scored 49 of a possible 50 in the Alexandra service rifle event yesterday with 10 shots at 600 yards. They will shoot off on Tuesday for the first prize challenge cup and £lO.
M. G. Gordon (New Zealand) was run-ner-up, winning a £5 prize, in Saturday’s aggregate event. With 190 points out of a possible 20C. he was one point behind the winner for the highest aggregate of scc-res in the four main service rifle events.
