HOSPITAL BOARD TO SUBMIT EVIDENCE
When the Consultative Committee on Hospital Reform visits Christchurch from July 21 to July 31, submissions will be made by the North Canterbury Hospital Board,, and one member, Mr J. J. Brownlee, indicated at a board meeting yesterday that he would give evidence on his own behalf To prepare the submissions, the board appointed a sub-committee comprising the chairmen of committees. Miss M. B. Howard, M.P. and Mr G. C. Warren. The submissions prepared will be subject to prior approval by the board. “A sub-committee must have a difficult task,” said Mr Brownlee. “There are some members who may think the board is overweighted with country members. Others may think there are not enough country members. Some think that boards should get people of sufficient calibre to run their own finance, and not be dependent on Government departments. Others may think that, as the Government provides most of the money, it should have the say.” To run the “biggest business in the South Island,” he had advocated the choice of board members who had business experience and experience of hospital administration, Mr Brownlee said. He would continue to express that view, and would advance it to the consultative committee.
