Tenders for a 60-bed home on the site at Riccarton would be called about the middle or end of August, when the specifications would be ready, Mr Mac Gibbon said. The home would be a monument to the Returned Services’ Association, and would give a great deal of comfort to its inmates. The old building would be kept as comfortable as possible until the move to the new site could be made. There were now 22 or 23 men at the home. A tribute to Mr Mac Gibbon for the work he had done for the home was paid by Mr B. Barrett, welfare officer of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association, who is the association’s representative on the council.
