KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION
MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL :
Miss R. Wilkie, principal of the Kindergarten Teachers’ Training College, announced at the monthly meeting of the council of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association that by June 8, all kindergartens would be staffed by trained teachers.. Mrs A. F. Johnson, the Dominion president of the Kindergarten Union, was ©canted leave of absence from the council and was thanked for her services as publicity officer. Mrs P. J. Byrne was elected publicity officer. A sub-committee was appointed to draft rules for local committees. It was also decided to send reports of the council meetings to local committees.
It was reported that, because the association’s property in Lincoln road had been sold, the Hillmorten Kindergarten was closed temporarily. The council was advised that the Education Department had approved the purchase of a section in Torrens road. It was decided to buy the football club’s hall in Hoon Hay road, transfer it to Torrens road, and alter it to conform with the Government regulations for a Grade I kindergarten. Mr W. A. Anderson presented the training college and the Sunbeam Kindergarten each with a framed pheftograph of the staff and pupils of the Sunbeam Kindergarten in 1912. Mrs B. K. Dawber and Miss Wilkie thanked Mr Anderson. Mrs. L W. McCaskill presided and welcomed new delegates.
