SCHOOLBOY SHOT DEAD GUN DISCHARGED IN CROSSING HEDGE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 24. A schoolboy was found fatally shot at Omokoroa, Tauranga, at 7.30 this evening. He was: Vivian Crapp, aged 16, a son of Mr Joe Crapp, of Omokoroa. •The boy had been out after rabbits with a shotgun, and was attempting to get through a barberry hedge when the accident occurred. CHILD KILLED BY TRAIN (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 24. A child of 18 months was killed instantly when he was struck by me engine of a goods train at the Okproire Railway Station near Matamata on Saturday afternoon. He was: Stanley Charles Edwards, a son of Mr John Edwards, a railway surface- . man, of Okoroire, The child had wandered on to the line.
PEDESTRIAN KILLED BY CAR
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 24. A man was killed by a car in Manukau road on Saturday evening. He was: Cecil Philip Jackman, also known as John Cyril May, aged 73. of the Salvation Army Home, Epsom. He was a South African and First World War veteran.
BABY GIRL DROWNED IN TROUGH
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 24. An 18-month-old girl was drowned in a trough on her father’s farm near Cambridge yesterday. She was: Judith Anne Crisp, the daughter of Mr and Mrs C. W. Crisp, of Hautapu. The child had been missing for only a few minutes before she was found.
DEATH AFTER COLLISION
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 24. . A young man died after a collision between a car and a truck at Pukekohe last night. He was.
Roy Athol Ingle, aged 25, single, a son of Mrs T. M. Ingle, Manukau road. Pukekohe.
After the collision, the driver of the truck inquired of Mr Ingle’s condition, and on obtaining an assuring reply left him. About half an hour later Mr Ingle was discovered by two passersby in a serious condition. They called the police and a doctor, and Mr Ingle was taken to his home.
NAVAL RATING KILLED
(New Zealand Press AUCKLAND, May 2A A naval rating of H.M.N.Z.S. Bellona was killed when a motor-cycle crashed into a stationary car at 12.15 a.m. today at Tauranga street. He was
Owen Francis Smith, aged 22, a stoker mechanic.
Four other persons were injured. A tyre was being changed on the car at the time of the accident.
FISHERMAN DROWNED
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May 23. Alan Graham Robbie, a fisherman, was drowned last night in the Invercargill. Estuary. Mr Robbie, who was about 25, was single, and lived at 55 Nelson street, Invercargill. His body was recovered at 10.20 a.m. today after more than six hours’ dragging. About 7 p.m. yesterday he was working aboard his launch, the Marina.
It is thought that an oil lamp which Mr Robbie was lighting in the cabin exploded and threw burning oil in his face. Apparently he rushed out of the cabin, and, unable to see where he was going, fell overboard-
