JAPAN’S ROLE IN ASIA

PLAN FOR ECONOMIC REHABILITATION (Rec. 7 pun.) TOKYO. May 13. Japan did not intend to force any economic development plan on Southeast Asian countries, the Japanese Foreign Minister (Mr Katsuo Okazaki) said today. He was 1 commenting on newspaper reports about developments in Southeast Asia. The Japanese Foreign Ministry announced yesterday that Japan was to establish a council to discover how she could help develop South-east Asian Countries. . . Mr Okazaki said his country s aim was simple—the economic rehabilitation of South-east Asian countries because only then can we have a chance to sell our goods, and buy necessary materials from those countries. He added: "We shall try' to export wherever there are any fields in which we can contribute to their own economic programmes. . , . “Japan is quite ready to give further consideration to tine question of war reparations. We are ready to negotiate on request”
