Comment On Visit By Mr Dulles
(Rec. 10 P.m.) LONDON, May 14. Reuter’s correspondent in Tel Aviv says that the English-language newspaper the Jerusalem, ■Post," which often reflects the views of Israel’s Foreign Ministry, asserted in a leading article today that Mr Dulles, the United States Secretary of State, now visiting Israel, "will find Israel ready to deal directly on all the thorny issues in the question of peace with the Arabs.” » "There is one essential condition for such negotiations—that the Arab states recognise the existence of the independent state of Israel as a fact, and acknowledge its sovereignty within its borders. "This is a point which Mr Dulles may well be in a position to impress Kthe rulers of the Arab states his conversations with Israel’s Prime Minister and her Foreign Minister.” the newsnaner said, "Mr Dulles's visit arouses hopes that American policy will now be to try to convince the niters of the. Arab states of the advisability for them to conclude peace with Israel. The newspaper emphasised the recent statement by the Israel Prime Minister to an American correspondent that Israel was ready to offer a guarantee for 100 years to remain within her nreaent frontiers. The newspaper concluded: “Israel Is peace loving. Her existence does not mean any threat to peace m the Middle East. It is impossible that our American guests should not be impressed by this fact.” . Anti-Communists clashed with demonstrators at a rally protesting against the visit of Mr Dulles in Tel Aviv last night
