RANGIORA MILK SUPPLY
Sir,—As I understand the Milk Council will meet in Christchurch this week, perhaps it could explain to the residents of Rangiora just why we have no choice in milk vendors. If you are not satisfied with the sole vendor in your zone, you are free to go without or get it yourself elsewhere. Residents of Christchurch have the choice of two vendors. Why not the same for Rangiora? I understand government policy was all for competition, freedom and private enterprise. Or is it?.—Yours, etc., i MILK O. Rangiora, May 5, 1953.
[“Zoning in Rangiora is administered by the Government, which favours one vendor to one zone, to keep down delivery costs and help keep the retail price of milk down. This policy is- in operation in most New Zealand towns, and is quite satisfactory. Milk zoning in Christchurch is not administered by the Government but by the Metropolitan Milk Board, whose policy has been to allow more than one vendor to each zone.” This comment was received when this .letter was referred to the Marketing Division of the Department of Agriculture.]
