VICTORIA LEAGUE

ANNUAL MEETING There was a record attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Victoria League of Canterbury yesterday. The president (Mrs J. Mowbray Tripp) presided and gave a short report of the Victoria League conference held a few months ago in Dunedin. „ A J? ote , of thanks was accorded Miss M. Skoglund. who has been secretary of the league for 21 years and has g* ven devoted and efficient service, rhe work of Miss M. Ray, who conducts the personal correspondence scheme, was warmly commended and it was mentioned that 15,000 links had been established with overseas persons. A cable of thanks and good wishes was received at the meeting from Lady Worsley (chairman of the Victoria League in London). Mrs Murray Loughnan, the newly elected president of the Young Contingent, presented the annual report of Miss Nancy Northcroft, who had recently relinquished the presidency after three years in office. The report said that the membrship of the Young Contingent was now 350, that members sponsored four children under the Save the Children Fund, and in addition to paying the sponsorship fees had sent parcels to the value of £22 to the children. During last Sear, 31 members had been given Production cards to the Victoria League in London and two to Australia, parcels costing £7O had been sent to London headquarters of the league and members had helped in the sale of health stamps, and in the Red Cross and Poppy Day street appeals. The report reviewed the many activities of the year, including social gatherings, luncheon meetings at which addresses were delivered, and money making schemes. The Young Contingent was congratulated on its report and appreciation of Mias Northcroft’s work was recorded.

Mr G..,C. Weston, on behalf of the Young Contingent thanked Mrs Tripp for her unfailing interest and generous support and Miss G. Russell was thanked for auditing the league's accounts.

Deans, J. Barker, O. Johnston, G. Ward, R. Cracroft Wilson, R. Johnson, J. H. Deans, Colonel and Mrs R Neill Dr. M. Hardtog, Mr and Mrs M. Macfarlane, Mr and Mrs Peter Hall, Mr and Mrs E. C. Tapley, Mr and Mrs E. Millton, Mr and Mrs W. Matson, Misses A. Candy, M. Enright, M. Ray, Captain G. Dennistoun, Brigadier J. T. Burrows, Messrs C. G. McKellar and J. Collins.
