SOCIAL CLUB FOR COUNCIL STAFF
CONVERSION OF TEPID BATHS BUILDING
In a few weeks, employees of the Christchurch City Council will be able to use their new recreation rooms, now being built in the old tepid baths building in Manchester street. A wooden floor has been constructed about 15 feet above the bottom of the old pool. The floor measures 78ft 6in by 56ft, and will provide accommodation for dances, socials and games. A kitchen and a servery are also to be built, opening on to the main hall. Carpenters have been working on the project, usually only on wet days, since the baths were closed. The space between the bottom of the pool and the floor of the recreation hall, which is now full of timber, may be used by the Municipal Electricity Department for storage. Improvements would be made to the hall and added facilities installed by the employees of the council when they , took over the building, said the City Engineer (Mr E. A. Somers) yesterday.
