SIR WILLOUGHBY NORRIE
Leased Horse To Race This Month
PIRATE ENTERED FOR WANGANUI EVENT (New Zealand Press Association) ‘ AUCKLAND, May 11. The colours of the Governor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie)—black, claret sleeves and cap—will be seen on a New Zealand racecourse for the first time on May 30, when his leased four-year-old gelding Pirate Witt start in the 3 n.m. rafe at Wanganui. His Excellency will attend the meeting. Sir Willoughby Norrie has been an owner in England—his steeplechaser Arduous won 18 races and was unplaced only six times in 62 startsand in South Australia during his term as Governor. He successfully raced several horses in. Australia. Since his arrival in New Zealand in December the Governor-General has KKwi «« fef™* in 1937, out pf knockout This colt has been named Western Desert, and is TrenUiam.' not being 0 hurriedL as his owner hopes he wiU become outstanding. Recently his Excellency bought from a Papatoetoe breeder a chestnut yearling colt by Panair, a winner of the Doncaster Handicap, out of Tiptoes, herself a good runner. He has not yet been named, but may be called p r yln F Saucer. He is to be trained by The Governor-General has leased from Sir James Fletcher a chestnut yearling filly by Gold Nib out of First Cast, dam of Blue Trout. The Ally has been called First Nibble, and is being trained by F. Smith at Takanini.
Pirate, which will start at Wanganui on May 30, is by Neptune from Cheney, is trained by D. Marks at Wanganui, and is leased from Mr J. G. Alexander. The jockey for the first race will possibly be W. J. Broughton.
