HERON AIRCRAFT ARRIVES
DELIVERY FLIGHT FROM ENGLAND (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 10. The National Airways Corporation’s third Heron airliner, the Matuhi landed at Rortgotai aerodrome just before 2 p.m. today, at the end of its 17-day delivery flight from England. The trip was made in 82 hours' flying time.
The plane was flown by the chief pilot of the corporation (Captain L. J. Ransom). The navigator was Captain R. T. Mounsey. The Matuhi left England on April 24, and called at 18 airports on its way. It left Calcutta a few hours before the Comet which crashed in Bengal. The plane flew by way of Berne, Rome, Athens, Beirut, Bahrein, Sharjah (on the Persian Gulf), Karachi, Delhi, Calcutta, Rangoon, Bangkok, Singapore, Sourabaya, Kupang, Darwin, Cloneurry, Birsbane, Norfolk Island and Whenuapai. It arrived at Whenuapai about 10.30 a.m. today. Later this afternoon, the Matuhi took off for Milson, where it will be modified before taking up the Rongotai-Blenheim-Nelson service on June 8.
