CAR PARKING AT NIGHT
Sir,—l am a resident of New Brighton. Coming home along Union street on a bicycle tonight as far as the first telephone box I passed about 20 motorcars road-garaged. There was no street lighting. Not one car had parking lights on. With an oncoming car, with dazzling lights, you can understand the danger of a collision with a darkpainted car. When New Brighton had its own council, our inspector prosecuted such offenders. Apparently there is no fear of this today. Will the inspectors give me a bob a knob for the car numbers of the above offenders? Will the chief traffic officer say how many car-owners, parked as above, at New Brighton have faced the Magistrate’s Court this year?—Yours, etc., A C. J. F. ALLEN. April 13, 1953. # [‘All reported cases of cars parked without lights in dangerous positions are dealt with in the usual manner,” said the Traffic Superintendent of the City Council (Mr G. P. Kellar) when this letter was referred to him.]
