SMALLPOX IN YORKSHIRE
SPEEDWAY CROWD TO BE VACCINATED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 8. The Manchester Medical Officer of Health (Dr. C. M. Brown) advised 15,000 persons who attended the speedway at Manchester on Friday to be vaccinated immediately because x a smallpox suspect was among the speedway crowd. The suspect was admitted to the Halifax, Yorkshire, isolation hospital today. Dr. Brown said there was no cause for alarm, but the public should be aware of the circumstances. The sus?ected case travelled from Halifax, brkshire. Nineteen confirmed cases of smallpox have been reported in Yorkshire in recent weeks and four persons have died. The cases first occurred in a spinning mill at Todmorden. All the cases so far are confined to this area.
