OBITUARY
MRS L. A.. BUTTERICK Mrs Lavinia Ann Butterick, who died recently at Wakanui, was the last surviving member of the family of Mr and Mrs T. Trenurza, who arrived in New Zealand in 1862. After living at Broadfields and Loburn they finally settled in the middle 70’s at Wakanui, where Mrs Butterick was born in 1879. She was married in 1905 to Mr Frederick Butterick. Mrs Butterick was a staunch member of the Wakanui Methodist Churcn. For 40 years she was the organist and sacramental steward, and missions collector for 55 years. When the new St. John’s Church was built about 15 years ago she was invited to lay the foundation stone, and at the time of her death she was vice-president of the Wakanui Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary. A keen worker for the Wakanui subcentre of the Red Cross Society durWorld War I, Mrs Butterick was elected president during World War 11, and held that office at the time of her death.
She was a member of the Wakanui Croquet Club and of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and the Women s Division of Federated Farmers. She was also a member of the Canterbury-West Coast branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Soj Canterbury Horticultural Society and its lily circle.
