NEW CENTRAL PRESIDENT Dr. Dorothy Roberts, wife of the Rt. Rev. B. C, Roberts, former Bishop of Singapore and now general secretary of Society f or the Propagation of the Gospel has succeeded Mrs Geoffrey Fisher, wife of the Archbishop of Canterbury as central president of the Mothers’ Union. Dr. Roberts is of Scottish extraction. She was trained at Edinburgh Medical School, and later became the first woman medical practitioner to practice at a t l *?. Kent an d Canterbury Hospital. Although not serving specifically as a missionary in Malaya. Dr. Roberts otten helped during emergencies in mission hospitals. She was created an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for public services in Malaya. Among her many works was the establishment of St Andrew’s Orthopaedic Hospital in Singapore. Dr. Roberts has served as a governor of a mental hospital, and has presided over the Child 'Welfare Society. She has been a member of the Canterbury City Council, and has been county welfare officer of the joint organisation of the British Red Cross and St. John Ambulance Brigade for the county of Kent.

Dr. Roberts joined the Mothers’ Union in 1922. and has a family of fotir and one granddaughter.
