SECONDARY SCHOOLS’ SPORTS EIGHT RECORDS BROKEN Establishing eight records in 12 events, Christchurch Boys’ High School competitors were outstanding in the secondary schools’ swimming sports, held in the St. Albans baths yesterday afternoon. The school won 11 of the 12 finals, and also won every race in which it competed, except the 100 yards intermediate freestyle final, which was won by J. M. Watson (Christ’s College) in record time. Nine records were broken during the afternoon of brilliant swimming. Possibly the outstanding performance was that of O. Snoep (Boys’ High School), whose new record of 59sec for 100 yards compares favourably with New Zealand scratch times. Snoep won the event by about a third of a length of the bath. Some of the new records were established in the heats. J. M. Watson’s junior record for the 66 2-3 yards freestyle was broken by B. Robertson, but Watson in return established a new record for the 100 yards intermediate freestyle.
