KOREAN WAR INQUIRY
Taft Proposal Opposed (Rec. 10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Mar. 9. Opposition tb the proposal by Senator Robert Taft for a full-scale Congressional inquiry into the Korean war was growing in Washington over the week-end. Republicans as well' as Democrats joined in opposing the step which Senator Taft, the Republican leader in the Senate, suggested on Saturday. Senator William Knowland, of California. chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, said that an inquiry “would not be profitable at this tjme ” Speaking on a television programme last night he said: “We .should concentrate on ammunition and not expose our hand with a general investigation.” Senator Walter George (Democrat, is the senior Democrat in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. said of Senator Taft’s proposal: “I cannot conceive fcf anything worse than an investigation now of the armistice talks and public investigations of whether or not we are sending adequate armed forces and supplies into Korea.” Senator Mike Moroney (Democrat, Oklahoma) said that a full-scale inquiry would be our punches.”
