CORONATION DAY PLANS

TALKS IN PARK ON MONDAY

Coronation celebration arrangements will be advanced by discussions in North Hagley Park next Monday morning. Representatives of the City Council’s works and reserves departments, the armed forces, the Christchurch Fire Brigade, and fireworks operators will attend. The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) said last evening that inspection of the site should allow more positive plans to be prepared. The decorations committee had met on Thursday evening and discussed what areas should receive attention, Mr Macfarlane said. Retailers would be approached to decorate their buildings, and some public buildings might be illuminated. Mr Macfarlane said church services would be held on the morning of Coronation day by both the National Council of Churches and the Roman Catholic Church.
