CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 1954

TROTTING

APPLICATION FOR NEW ZEALAND The committee of the Auckland Trotting Club was not prepared at the moment to commit itself to running the interDominion championship meeting in 19M. said the president of the club (Dr. MG. Pezarol at a meeting of the executive committee of the New Zealand Trotting Conference last night. Th* subject had been sprung on them unexpectedly and he had not been able to attend an emergency meeting of the committee last Monday. The Auckland committee apparently f elt that it would be untair to commit the club to paying big stakes in 1954 or 1955—which ever year was granted by the Inter-Dominion Trotting Conierence—taking into consideration the effect tha Totalisator Agency Board and other financial factoxs were having on total.sator turnover. ‘‘l am surpr.sed at the action of the committee," he added. “Some club mav be left with the 1954 meeting if it wants it or not," said th« president of the conference (Mr A. I* Matson).

Trotting in New Zealand was big enough to run the meeting, said Mr A. J. Corrigan (Hawera>. “There might be a bit of a scare about totalisator turnovers dropping. Other North Island clubs would offer every assistance to AucklandIt would be a retrograde step not to handle the meeting." t , Mr Matson auggoted that the matter be left with the emergency meeting the conference. Dr. Pezaro could call a meeting of its committee when he returned to Auckland and ex. lain the P®?*’ tion fully. It was unfortunate that the Auckland club had not had more time to study the situation, but he had just realised that last night’s meeting was probably the last to be held before delegates left for the inter-Dominion conference meeting which would decide where tne meeting would be held.

On Schooling List Henry of Navarre was placed on the schooling list at a meeting of the executive committee of the New Zealand Trotting Conference last night. This actior was recommended unanimously by tn< stipendiary stewards.
