REBEL OFFENSIVE IN INDO-CHINA
HANOI. November 11. Vietminh rebels attacked French posts, mined roads and laid ambushes in the southern part of the Tonking delta of Indo-China today in an attempt to divert the French counteroffensive in the north above Hanoi. A French military spokesman said tonight the rebels had increased their activity in the southern section, and sent into action 25.000 regular and regional troops. In the last 12 hours, French troops withstood attacks on their posts, but 17 were killed. 26 wounded, and many were missing in ambushes. In hilly country in the north. French troops moving forward from Phu Doan, north-west of Hanoi, had advanced an additional five to 10 miles into Vietminh territory, a communique stated. Orient Boxing Title Decided.— Larry Bataan, the Filipino champion, won the feather-weight championship of the Orient when he beat the Japanese champion.
