N.Z.’S GIFT FOR COLOMBO PLAN
Sir,—A criticism of New Zealand’s gift for the Colombo Plan was taken U P by you in a sub-editorial of November 10, from which I deduct that you are prepared to give to other countries what is urgently needed here. A statement published by the Hospital Board said that its main difficulty was getting finance from the Government, and on being urged to erect a temporary structure it quite rightly refused. It seems that millions can be found for Asian hospitals, etc. when the need here is equally urgent. Can you inform me what has happened to the wealth of the Maharajahs, to some of whom £2.000,000 represents a month’s income. I have lived in the countries about which I write, and have on one occasion been the guest of a Maharajah. The hope that these monetary “gifts” will sway .people politically is ludicrous.—Yours, etc., LOGICAL VIEW. November 11, 1952.
