INQUEST INTO CHILD’S DEATH

FURTHER ADJOURNMENT GRANTED An Inquest into the death of Gwendya Stephine Slade, aged 1 year and 11 months, was adjourned yesterday by the Coroner, Mr E. B. ..Taylor, until next Friday. The child died on September 20 after having been found by her mother in three or four inches of water in the bath. She was badly scalded. The inquest was opened on September 23 fdt identification, and was resumed on October 17, when evidence was given by the child’s mother and two doctors. It was then adjourned until yesterday for evidence by Dr. c - T. B. Pearson, a pathologist. When the Coroner was continuing the inquest yesterday, Mr H W. Hunter said he appeared on behalf of Dr. J. J. Brownlee and Dr. Margaret Patricia Yeoman, of the Burwood Public Hospital. As there apparently was a challenge to their I treatment and he had just received instructions he would ask for an adjournment. Mr B. G. Dingwall, for the child’s parents, said they would not be seriously prejudiced if an adjournment was granted.

Sergeant R. F. Leith represented the police.
