EMPIRE MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE
Turpin Outpoints Angelo
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, October 21. Randolph Turpin, the British and European middle-weight boxing champion, won the British Empire title, held by the late Dave Sends, when he outpointed the South African. George Angelo, over 15 rounds in London tonight. The contest was a dreary one. The South African spent nearly ell the fight back-pedalling but he made Turpin look exceedingly poor on occasions. The British champion was inclined to be lethargic and seemed quite content to build up pointe as dreary round succeeded dreary round. It was not until the last couple ot rounds, after the referee had spoken to the boxers, diet Turpin succeeded in working up any kind of lighting fervour. Then it was too late. Turpin shook Angelo several times with heavy punches to the body and short hooks to the head, but Angelo never looked likely to take the count Turpin’S timing was often bad and his judgment frequently at fault.
