WOOL PROMOTION IN JAPAN

Secretariat To Open New Branch

(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON. October 22. Mr R. G. Lund, the New Zealand representative of the International Wool Secretariat, will leave London today to arrange for the opening of a new branch in Japan, which is rapidly regaining her pre-war position as one of the world’s biggest buyers of wool. The purpose of the new branch will be to promote the increased use of woollen goods in Japan. The decision to extend the secretariat’s organisation to this area of the Far East was taken at the last meeting in London of the executives of the Wool Board of Australia, New Zealand. and South Africa.

Survey oarties visited Japan last year, headed by the president of the United States National Wool Mpnufacturers’ Association. Mr Lewis Hird. Thsy reported favourably on the prospects of wool promotion in Japan. The secretariat has branches in 14 countries, the last of which was opened in Dusseldorf, Western Germany, in October, 1951.
