FORMER PREMIER ACQUITTED
CORRUPTION CHARGE IN JAPAN
(Rec. 8 p.m.) TOKYO. October 21. A Court today acquitted the former Prime Minister (Mr Hitoshi Ashida) of charges connected with the Showa Denka corruption scandal. The case which started in 1948, caused the tall of Mr Ashida’s cabinet. Government officials were accused of accepting bribes to facilitate the operations of the Showa Denka chemical industry group. Mr Ashida is now a member of the newly-formed Progressive Party under the former Foreign Minister (Mr Mamoru Shigemitsu). i)
