MILK COMPANY SHARES
Sir,—Ratepayers will be glad that the committee, formed recently from the public protest meeting, is to have a further public meeting this week to protest against the City Council’s buying shares in the Milk Company. With the Drainage Board proposing to raise about £500,000, and the City Council raising, I Jhink, about £50,000 for bridges, ratepayerss are becoming alarmed at where this is all going to end. I am paying £23 for rates on my house property now. Goodness knows what they will be when these additional sums are added to our rates. I, for one, shall go along to this second meeting of protest at the council’s actions; and it is to be hoped that all ratepayers will stand solidly behind this committee.—Yours, etc., D. SMITH.
