ACCOMMODATION FOR TOURISTS
“FEW COMPLAINTS IN LAST YEAR”
Few complaints had been made about hotel accommodation during the last year, said Mr Gilbert C. Beckett, South Island publicity officer in Auckland, in a report received at the annual meeting of the South Island Publicity Association in Christchurch yesterday. “The spreading of tourist traffic through the off-season has probably had much to do with this, and has enabled hotels to' retain staffs,” he said. “About 12,000 overseas visitors have visited New Zealand during the las t year, and they brought somq £2,000,000 with them, so the South Island no doubt received a reasonable share of this money.” The Auckland Tourist Bureau did its best to send visitors to the South Island, said Mr Beckett. “After all. New Zealand is only a small country and the variety and quality of the attractions in the North Island, as well as those in the South Island, bring tourists to New Zealand, many of whom would not be seen in the South Island but for the North Island publicity as well.” he said.
