CLOTHING WORKERS’ AWARD
APPRENTICESHIP TERM VARIED In a new Dominion clothing trade employees’ award issued by the Arbitration Court, one of the provisions is that the term of apprenticeship for female workers in any capacity will be three years. The previous award provided for two years' apprenticeship, followed by two years’ improvership. The minimum wage for examiners will now be £9 14s 3d a week. An examiner is defined as an employee who examines completed garments and passes them for folding and dispatch. Pressers will be paid a minimum wage o; £9 14s 3d a week. A charge hand will be paid an allowance of not less than 10s a week above the rate prescribed for a journeyman or journeywoman. The minimum wages for « ’ourneywoman are £6 8s a week and for male machinists and male handsewers £9 14s 3d a week. New- awards containing similar provisions have also been issued for white and silk shirt workers, dressmakers, milliners, fur workers, and glove workers.
