EXPLOSION IN SHED
OLD MAN CRITICALLY INJURED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 22. After an explosion - and fire in a shed at the rear of his home about 11 a.m. today a man was admitted to the Auckland Public Hospital with stomach and arm injuries. He is William Jeynes. aged 86. a widower and pensioner, who lived alone in Alderley road. Mount Eden. His condition is critical. Two neighbours who heard the explosion found Mr Jeynes sitting on a seat at the side of his house. He was seriously injured and unconscious. The shed w’as on fire. A St. John ambulance took Mr Jeynes away just before the fire brigade arrived. After the fire was put out police found several plugs of gelignite, some detonators, and a length of fuse in the shed. LORRY AND CYCLIST COLLIDE 14-YEAR-OLD BOY KILLED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 22. A cyclist was killed in a collision with a truck on the Mount Wellington highway early this afternoon. He was: Brian Colin York, aged 14, a son of Mr Williams York, of 67 Ruawai road, Mount Wellington. The truck and the cyclist were travelling in the same direction when the collision occurred. The boy was taken to hospital by ambulance, but died soon after his admission. CAR DRIVER DIES OF INJURIES (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 22. The driver of a car which overturned and caught fire on the Bombay deviation last Thursday died in the Middlemore Hospital today. He was Colin Campbell Jonson, aged 26, a labourer, of Kaiaua. Mr Jonson was driving a light car which had been bought by a friend on the day of the accident.
