TOPDRESSING BY PLANES
ACCIDENT RATE IN NEW ZEALAND
(New Zealand Press Association) i GISBORNE. October 4. The Minister had now established that there have been only two fatal aerial topdressing accidents altogether, and none at all in the last two years, said Mr Lawson Field, president of the Aviation Industry Association, today. He was replying to a statement by the Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr T. L. Macdonald) on fatal accidents which have occurred in agricultural flying, and particularly aerial topdressing. “As was pointed out by the Minister, the other fatal accidents resulted from cross-country flights, rabbitpoisoning work, low flying over residences. and other causes not associated with any hazard there might be in topdressing.”
Judged by world standards, this was a remarkable safety record. Mr Field said, and he would congratulate th? pilots, engineers, and owners on their outstanding safety accomplishment.
