STUDY OF MILK INDUSTRY

REPRESENTATIVES OF BRITISH BOARD

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 28. A -party of four representatives of the Milk Marketing Board of England and Wales arrived in Auckland today from Sydney by air. They are Messrs R. Trehane (vice-chairman of the board); W. Tutton, and S. Morrey (members of the board), and Dr. J. Edwards (head of the production division of the board). They will stay in New Zealand for about five weeks, and most of the time will be spent in the North Island. They will visit agricultural colleges and research stations. Among the matters which the visitors will study are the organisation and structure of the milk industry in the Dominion, particularly the marketing of milk, production techniques, the development and use of pastures, the latest work at the research stations, and the way the New Zealand Dairy Board and other organisations transmit the results of research to farmers. In Australia, the party had been more interested in the structure of the milk industry, Mr Trehane said. There were 156,000 milk producers in England and Wales, and 90 per cent, of the milk was drunk. The board was naturally interested in more and cheaper production, he said.
