INQUEST OPENED

WOMAN FOUND DEAD ON BEACH

EVIDENCE GIVEN BY * FATHER

An inquest into the death of Josephine Barbara Allan, whose body was found buried in the sand at South Brighton on Friday, was opened before the Coroner, Mr F. F. Reid, at the Central Police’ Station on Saturday morning. Detective-Sergeant G. W. Alty represented the police.

Evidence of identification was given by the father of the dead woman, Edward Florian Allan, a railway employee, who said that his daughter, who lived with the family at 271 Tuam street, had been employed for the last nine years at the Latex Rubber Company. He last saw his daughter about 7.30 ajn. on Wednesday, preparing tb go to work. She was then apparently in her usual good health; He said he was not unduly perturbed when she did not return that evening, as she sometimes stayed with friends. It was not until he arrived at his home on Thursday and found her still missing that he notified the police, The witness said he had known a man named Bill Brown, who had been brought to his home by his daughter, and although he did not actually approve of the association he had no reason to believe that it would lead to serious trouble. The inquest was adjourned .sine die.
