The new 12,000,000 dollar UftitCd Nations General Assembly building, bunt of materials from many countries, is ready to receive the plenary sessions of the Assembly banning oh November 14. New Zealand and Australia are among the countries whose materials ate used—riffiti wood panelling from New Zealand and laeeWood panelling itbffi Australia. i Materials purchased from other countries include draperies from Haiti, curtains from Israel, public seats from Sweden, marble from Italy and carpeting from Egypt. The building, Which is about 380 feet long, is peculiarly shaped, somewhat tike the. wihd-tunnels used in aircraft research. The main entrance ii entirely Of glass and forms a huge Window Set between marble columns. The erttrahte reserved for delegations is a cantilevered marble canopy of modern design. Visitors entering the Assembly building Will pass through seven niidkle-plated doOts given by the Canadian Government. On the doors afe panels of bas-relief Symbolising Peftce, Justice, Truth ahd Fraternity. The huge main lobby is open to the roof up to 75 feet and its modern cantilevered balconies and subdued lighting produce an unusual effect somewhat like a cathedral atmosphere. , Ih the public lounge there will be a souviner shop, a handicraft shop and a Uflited Nations stamp counter. To the right or the main entrance is a small, prayer or meditation room for use by delegates and the Public Assembly auditorium, measuring 165 feet by H 5 feet, ahd 79 feet high. It has a circular skylight Whteh admits a single shaft of Sunlight. Seats for observers, guests and the press rise in theatre faShiori to the refer of the hall. There are 750 seats fdr delegations-, 270 for observers, 234 for the press feftd 800 for the public.
