N.Z. COALMINING INDUSTRY
STUDY BY INDONESIAN ENGINEER (Ntw Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 26. The first Indonesian to come to New Zealand under a UNESCO fellowship arrived by air today. He is Mr Abdul Moemir, a mining engineer, from Sumatra, who will study all aspects of coalmining in New Zealand for the next six or eight months. Mr Moemir said Indonesia had two Government-owned coalmines and three smaller privately-owned ones. In Sumatra, there was a deep mine in the centre of the island, and an opencast mine near the southern coast. In New Zealand, Mr Moemir will join eight Indians who recently arrived to study coalmining under the Colombo Plan. Their party will also be joined next week by, two Siamese students who are coming under UNESCO fellowships.
