ANNUAL MEETING OF FEDERATION
1953 TOURNAMENT TO BE AT HASTINGS (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 1.
Because Wellington lacked adequate hall accommodation, the Wellington Association could not organise big tournaments, said the secretary, Mr C. G. Welch, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Indoor Bowls Federation at New Plymouth on Saturday night. It was decided that the 1953 championships should be held at Hastings. A remit from the Waikato Association that mate be pinned to the floor to avoid wrinkling was lost. Each association, it was agreed, could use methods which suited best in its own matches, but in any fixtures under the federation’s authority, the mats should be loose, as stated in the rules.
A remit from the North Taranaki Association, that no player be allowed to carry a ball from the delivery eild beyond the one-third mark, was lost. A remit from the Taranaki Centre, that entries of pairs and fours in the national championships should be accepted only If the teams consisted of players from one club, and that substitutes should only be chosen from the same association, was also lost. , . In three years the federation had grown to more than 6000 members, and prospects for the future were very promising, said Mr Welch. In his annual report the president (Mr E. C. Wearne) said 6051 members from 211 clubs from the Waikato to Canterbury formed the present federation. The finances were in a sound position. Cfficers elected were:—president, Mr E. C. Wearne (Wellington); deputy-presi-dent. Mr R. J. Wallis (Hawera); secretary. Mr C. G. Welch (Wellington); treasurer, Mr C. J. Hoffeins (Wellington), auditor. Mr N. A. Ingram (Wellington); solicitor, Mr 8. Hardy (Wellington).
