WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Amberley.—The annual general meeting of the Amberley branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held in the Town Hall. The election of officers resulted as follows:—president, Mrs J. Re tailick; vice-presidents, Mesdainne A. George and O. Wells; secretary, Mrs W. Briggs; assistant secretary, Mrs D. Russell; treasurer, Mrs Kay; committee. Mesdames E. Hiatt, R. Harrison. A. Gray. R. Thomas, and Ron Croft; housekecoing secretary, Mrs J. Boyce.

Glenroy.—The Glenroy branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers held its fifth birthday party at Glenroy Hall, and there were many visitors. The £ resident. Miss Phillips, welcomed visi >rs, especially those who had left the district. It was pleasant, she said, to see them at the party. Mrs Kennedy sang. Various games and competitions and a short sketch were enjoyed. The president presented the points prizes for the year’s competitions as follows:—cooking and sewing: Mrs C. Hunt 1, Mrs M. Ballagh 2, Mrs A. Pearce 3. Flowers: Mrs C. Hunt 1, Mrs A. Pearce 2, Mrs G. Marsh 3. At supper time, the birthday cake was cut and speeches made by the leaders of each visiting branch of the Women’s Division and from Women’s Institutes.

Okuku.— Officers were elected as follows at the annual meeting of the Okuku branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers:—president. Mrs E. H. Crampton: vice-president, Mrs Johnson (Whiterock), Mrs E. Ensor and Mrs O’Halloran: secretary, Mrs Swarbrick; treasurer, Mrs H. Ensor; honorary auditor, Mr Finlay; delegates to provincial executive, Mrs E. Crampton, Mrs Johnson, and Mrs Swarbrick. Competitions resulted as follows: —autumn leaves and berries: Mrs W. Laing 1. Miss S. Davis 2. Pears: Mrs J. O’Halloran. Apple jelly: Mrs W. Laing 1, Mrs J. O’Halloran 2. Mrs E. Ensor 3. Mrs Anderson spoke of the good work done by Mrs E. Ensor (the retiring president) during her six years in office. Hostesses were Miss M. Dodge, Mrs W. Davis and Miss B. Davis. Tai Tapu.—Mrs R. Tobeck was appointed delegate to the annual conference in Wellington, at the monthly meeting of the Tai Tapu branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs J. R. Biddick presided. It was agreed to celebrate the birthday with an afternoon social at the home of Mrs Stackwood. At the conclusion of the business, a demonstration on the renovation of hats was given by Mrs John Fiecken. Hostesses were Mesdames Oliver, Michael, and J. Fiecken. Competition results were:—best bowl of berries and foliage: Mrs Heinzmann 1, Mrs J. Fiecken 2 and 3. West Melton.— Mrs Nutt, sen., a former president of the provincial executive, presided at the annual meeting of the West Melton branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. A report on the year’s work was read. The secretarytreasurer presented the balance-sheet, which showed a satisfactory credit balance. During the year the branch had given generously to the housekeeping fund, to the community chest and to the leper appeal. Officers were elected as follows:—president, Mrs J. D. Henderson; vice-presidents, Mesdames Witty, Langdale, and J. A. Wilson; secretary-treasurer, Mrs K. M. Stewart; competition secretary, Mrs W. Henderson, jun.; advisory members, Mrs J. D. Henderson and Mrs N. Blyth; delegates to the executive meetings, the president, vice-presidents, and the secretary; reporting secretary, Mrs W. Henderson, jun.; committee, Mesdames A. McKay, A. Hinton, I. Watson, W. Waddell, S. Coleman, and E. Chatterton. Competitions held during the year resulted as follows:—Northcroft cup: Mrs S. Pearce 1, Mrs Langdale 2, Mrs Blyth 3. Mrs E. Chatterton 4. Ashwell Cup: Mrs S. Pearce 1. Mrs J. A. Wilson 2, Mrs Blyth 3, Mrs R. Northcott 4. The monthly competitions, which were judged by Mrs Nutt and Mrs Stott, Tesulted as follows:—large bloom: Mrs I. Watson 1 and 2, Mrs Langdale 3. Small bloom: Mrs E. Chatterton 1, Mrs Langdale 2, Mrs J. A. Wilson 3. Cluster of blooms: Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Langdale 2, Mrs Watson 3. Cooking apples: Mrs Watson 1 and 2, Mrs Wilson 3. Six pieces of shortbread: Mrs Wilson 1 and 3, Mrs C. Read 2.

Ouruhla.—Miss J. Smith (vice-president of the provincial executive) presided at the annual meeting of the Ouruhia branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers. The election of officers resulted as follows:—president, Mrs W. Brown; vice-presidents, Mesdames N. L. Ashby and L. Humm; secretary-treasurer. Mrs H. G. Wells; committee. Mesdames T. O’Brien. W. Johnstone, and R. Stead; competition steward, Mrs T. O’Brien; delegates to provincial executive. Mesdames Brown, Wells, and Ashby. Competitions for the month resulted as follows: Large bloom: Mrs Brown 1, Mrs Stead 2. Small bloom: Mrs Harvey 1. Mrs Marsh 2. Spike: Mrs Wilkinson 1, Mrs Stead 2. Cluster: Mrs Harvey 1, Mrs Stead 2. Decorative: Mrs Humm 1. Mrs O'Brien 2. Jar of apricots: Mrs Wilkinson 1, Mrs O’Brien 2. Felt toy: Mrs W. Johnstone 1, Mrs Brown 2. Kaltuna.—The annual meeting of the Kaituna branch'of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers was held recently. Mrs H. A. Nutt presided over a good attendance of members. In her report, Mrs Nutt said the branch was in a sound financial position, and the holding of meetings In the evenings in members’ homes through the winter, had proved successful. During the year Mrs I. L. M. Coop, a member of the branch, had been elected Dominion president. Mrs Coop presided during the election of officers, which resulted as follows:—president, Mrs Cvril Gray; vice-president, Mrs R. Patten; secretary, Miss Betty Coop; assistant secretary, Mrs R. Barclay; committee, Mrs Keith Parkinson, Mrs Lee, Mrs Henderson, Mrs Klavins, and Mrs Cooper. Delegates to provincial executive, Mrs C. Gray. Miss B. Coop, and Mrs Patten. Prizes won during the year were awarded as follows:—most points: Mrs P. de Pass. Cooking: Mrs Patten. .Crafts: Mrs Patten and Mrs de Pass. Flowers: Mrs de Pass aiid Mra W. Parkinson.
