NATIONAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
MINISTER ANNOUNCES 1952 AWARDS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 4. The Minister of Scientific and Industrial Research (Mr R. M. Algie) announced to-night the awards of the National Research Fellowships for the year ended 1952, as recommended by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. The awards have been made to Mr D. Spiller, of Auckland, who will study insect physiology at Cambridge University, and Mr P. C. Barclay, of Palmerston North, who will study genetics and cytology at the University of Wisconsin. Two natic -al research fellowships are offered each year to suitable applicants with post-graduate experience in scientific research, to enable them to study at New Zealand or overseas institutions. Each fellowship has a value of £5OO a year. Additional grants of up to £5O for books, and apparatus and up to £ 100 for travel, may also be paid.
The tenure of each fellowship is for one year, with provision for an extension of an additional year where this is justified.
