OFF-COURSE BETTING
Sir.—To-day you print an account of off-course betting at the totalisator agency in the city, and you state that the board may have to consider refusing to take bets on any local meeting, because fhs c)ubs do not receive any revenue from off-course betting and it may effect the turnover of the clubs. The people of New Zealand definitely said they want off-course betting, and the Totalisator Agency Board have a duty to provide those facilities for the people, irrespective of whether it is a local meeting or not. A lot of people can’t attend local meetings. The clubs do well out of the fractions of the dividends which they keep. The board should forget all about refusing to take b«(< for local meetings.—Yours, etc., W. LEWIS. February 16, 1952.
