INFANTS AS COLLECTORS
Sir, —Going through the streets last Wednesday 1 had a box jingled under my nose by a little child who I should say was about three years of age. She was acting as a collector for the street appeal of the S.P.C.A. Much as I admire the work of the S.P.C.A., this stopped me from giving anything. To my mind it is disgraceful to think that babies can be used as collectors and, surely, before permits are issued for such collections some conditions are laid down by those responsible for the issue of the permit. I have never before seen babies used as collectors even though some of the appeals have been on behalf of children. I trust those responsible will see that it never happens again.—Yours, etc., NO CHILD SLAVES. February 9, 1952. x [Mr C. V. Rawley, organiser of the appeal, had no comment to make when this letter was referred to him.]
