WEAKER TONE AT CLOSE
(Rec. 12.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, October 23. The market closed with a weakening tendency, particularly for better length fleece wools, at the Sydney wool sales to-day. Otherwise values generally were unchanged on yesterday’s rates. Comebacks and crossbreds continued firm. > Tlie selection Included attractive spinners, chiefly from the southern slopes, but there was a large quantity of average to good topmaking from western areas. Competition was fair but variable, with the Continent add Britain predominating. There was 11JP3 were sold. Top price was IMd for five bales of medium to fine 84*70*8, greasy Merino fleece of good length and style in at* tractive condition. were generally 10 per cent above the closing rates at the Melbourne sale last Thursday, Medium and fine cross* breds participated in the rise to the greatest extent. The selection was good, comprising 80 per cent. Merino. Competition was keen and general, and the offering of 9600 bales was fully cleared* Prices were: Merino fleece, super 70’s, four bales at 170 d; 72’s, 10 at 188 d; flfl’s, six at 184 d.
