PAKISTAN AND EMPIRE.
“WITHDRAWAL NOT CONSIDERED” (Rec- BT, 8 T , p I ' m ) ..KARACHI, October 23. The Prime Minister of Pakistan (Mr Khwaja hazimuddin) last night denied reports that Pakistan was considering withdrawing from the Commonwealth: but he said that Britain’s lack oi leadership in matters between India and Pakistan was straining Commonwealth bonds.
I have enough trouble! without thinking of secession from the Commonwealth, but the trouble is the people here complain that the Commonwealth teems to do so little for Pakistan. The ordinary Pakistani feels that the Commonwealth could have done so much more to prevent the Kashmir question being weakly shelved by the United Nations. He feels he has been let down.” Mr Nazimudain said Pakistan was not hopeful of warmer relations with India "All we ask is that a plebiscite should bu, held in Kashmir. The nation* of the world have agreed that it is reasonable, but still the problem is shelved.”
Mr Nazimuddin added that Pakistan was very unhappy about the report produced by the United Nations mediator in the dispute over Kashmir (Dr. Frank Graham). “We feel that no advance in the situation has been made at all," he said.
